The Department of Chemistry started its promising journey in the academic session 2016-2017 intending to provide quality education in Chemical Science. This Department is very well-known for its excellent standard of teaching by highly efficient faculty members. The department is situated on the 2ndfloor of this college with one laboratory, one store room, one faculty room and three classrooms with state-of-the-art facilities. The laboratory possesses furniture, glass wares, chemicals, reagents and instruments for performing experiments in Organic, Physical and Inorganic Chemistry. During the last few years, the Department has procured sophisticated instruments like Rotary Evaporator, High Vacuum Pump with Motor and Pressure Gauge, Hot Air Oven (Digital), High Precision Electronic Digital Balance, Magnetic Stirrer with Hot Plate (Digital), UV Chamber with long wave & Shortwave, Microwave Oven, Grinding Machine, Digital Water Bath, Compact Laboratory Centrifuge, Heating Mantle etc.

At the department, chemistry is been taught as a Generic Elective course to the students enrolled in B. Sc. Zoology Honours Programme regulated by The University of Burdwan. The department promotes intensive faculty-student engagement. The overall result of our students in Chemistry in the university examination is excellent.

The department has three full-time faculty members. In addition to teaching, the faculty members are actively engaged in high quality research, and publish papers and book chapters regularly in international and national journals of repute. Research scholars are doing their research under their supervision. Two faculty members of the department, Dr. Pradipta Kumar Basu and Dr. Debasish Kundu are independent registered research supervisors under the University of Burdwan. Dr. Debasish Kundu is the Principal Investigator of a project [Project G.O. No. 43(Sanc.)/ST/P/S&T/15G-21/2018, Date: 30/01/2019] (Gobesonai Bangla, WBDSTBT).
