Indian Knowledge System

India is a land of rich cultural heritage and diversity with an unending tradition of knowledge system. The three main components of IKS have been identified as – Jnan (Knowledge), Vignan (Science) and Jeevan Darshan (Life Philosophy). These three components of the IKS have an indelible impact on the administration, education, commerce, health and arts and culture of Indian society. Even language, both Classical and others were influenced by the tradition of the knowledge system. Significantly, “Knowledge of India” in a sense implies knowledge of Ancient India. The Ministry of Education of the Government of India established the Indian Knowledge Systems or The Bhāratīya Jñāna Paramparā Vibhāga in October 2020. The main objective of this department is to revive, rejuvenate and reinstate the knowledge system of our heritage and to incorporate and integrate it into the domain of contemporary education and research activities. The Nation Education Policy of India (2020) acknowledges the rich heritage of our knowledge system and stresses that IKS should be included in the curriculums of all levels of education.

In compliance with the NEP, 2020 regulations, Government General Degree College Mangalkote, decided to promote and disseminate a profound understanding of the IKS. The college decided to conduct a series of events and programmes on the Indian Knowledge System to create awareness among the students. The Bengali Department was assigned with the responsibility of taking the first initiative. Consequently, a Webinar series was organized by the department on the theme “Sashtriya Sangeet, Loksangeet O Chitrakalai Bharatiya Somaj O Darshan” (Indian Society and  Philosophy in Classical Music, Folk Music and Painting). Three webinars are conducted on this theme.
